Chris Salvatore spent years being wanted on purpose. Now he says the wanting left a hole.
The Eating Out actor and former OnlyFans creator told Out he’s taking a break from adult entertainment, and he summed up why: he “would feel empty.”
No scandal, no leak, no apology tour. Just a working performer explaining, on the record, what the job did to him. That’s rarer than it should be.
He Built the Body of Work on Purpose
Salvatore’s screen career started with a wink. As Zack in the LGBTQ+ romantic comedy franchise Eating Out, he “showed plenty of skin in the final three films,” trading on boy-next-door charm and an easy grin.
Then, in 2021, he joined OnlyFans and worked in adult entertainment “for a few years.”
The math made sense. Indie gay cinema offers exposure; subscription platforms offer rent. He ran both at once and let each one feed the other.
OnlyFans Sells Intimacy. It Also Spends It.
The platform’s whole promise is access, and access is a finite resource. Performers describe the same pattern: a rush of attention, a flattening of feeling, then a question about what’s left when the camera turns off.
Salvatore’s answer is “empty.” Not regret. Not shame. Depletion.
Out‘s framing was simple: “Chris Salvatore is keeping it real.” That’s a compliment, but it’s also a tell. When naming your own burnout counts as candor, the baseline for honesty in this business is very low.
The Break Is Also a Pivot
Here’s what the “taking a break” headline buries. He isn’t retreating. He’s redirecting.
His next role casts him as Joel in the new queer apocalyptic survival horror flick Scorch Marks, described as “the haunting presence of his abusive ex-husband,” opposite Brandon Shypkowski’s Beckett, a man who “awakens to a seemingly devastated world.”
That is a deliberate break from the brand he built.
“It’s a really fun film, but it highlights the scary parts of toxic relationships,” he told Out. “We all have a story like that. It’s really different from what I’ve done before. I’m used to playing the boy next door, so I hope people see me in a different light.”
Read that last clause again. “A different light” is the entire strategy in three words. The OnlyFans years bought him a bigger audience, 882,000 Instagram followers and counting, and now he’s spending that audience on a role that asks people to forget the fantasy.
